Repotting my Devil's Ivy (aka Miranda Priestley)

I bought Miranda Priestley (my Golden Pathos) from a small garden centre in McLaren Vale upon my husband's request for something "less completely green" in our living room. The name, though kind of disconcerting, sent me straight to Devil Wears Prada vibes, so I purchased a stylish glazed pot for my plant to adorn, ala the queen herself.

Uncanny

So, next came: Mission Repot Miranda. I've repotted approximately 0 plants prior to this, but spoiler alert: it's not that hard (in fact, it's probably not blog-post worthy, but don't tell my readers that). Let's go:

Step 1: Gather supplies

That meant potting mix, a lil shovel, the new pot, and of course Miranda Priestley. Life hack: GO OUTSIDE. Very messy, not worth it.

The original pot she came in was smaller than her new one. Just a classic, black drainage pot that you buy all plants in, pretty much.

The pot was most importantly, stylish, and least importantly, had a drainage hole at the bottom to prevent from root rot. Win + win!

A good quality potting mix will make sure your plant has a healthy balance between holding moisture and draining well. Kind of like how we need to drink water, but like we also need to swallow that water or else it'll just fill up our mouth and make our tongue all icky (probably?).

Step 2: Soiling the pot (that came out wrong...)

Nothing life changing here, just put soil in the pot. About a third of the way, depending on the size of the plant you're putting in.

Step 3: Removing Miranda from her old clothes...

First, squeeze around the outside of the pot to loosen up the soil. Then, grip tightly at the base of the plant and tug lightly. If it feels like it's solid and not about to snap off, keep tugging.

*Shlooupp* That's the sound I imagine as the plant comes out. Miranda's strong roots meant the whole thing just slipped out with ease!

Part 4: ...and dressing her in Prada, baby.

Pop her into the middle of the new pot, and fill in the holes around the outside with potting mix. Press down on the top to make the soil nice and compact.

"Florals for spring? Ground breaking." - Queen.

Part 5: Pat yourself on the back, thank her for her cooperation, tell her she looks fabulous etc.

You did it. You really did it. (Well, I did this one, don't take my credit). See ya next time!
